Several weeks ago, my fourteen year old daughter asked me something that surprised me. She asked me how long her father courted me before he finally got my heart. So, I told her not that long, maybe just a month or two as far as I remember. She just smiled and continued reading her book.
When I was already lying in bed, she lied down next to me and started asking some questions again which is related in some way on her previous question. So I asked her why she all of a sudden she became interested with those things.
She then
started to tell story about her classmates having the problem with their family. They had an occasion wherein they shared their loneliest moments and that was the time when she had known that several of her classmates have a broken family.One of her classmates shared that one of her loneliest moment in life was when he came to know that her father who was working in other country already have a new family on the said country. What hurts more that when her father came home with a baby whom she thought he had with the other woman. Her mother cannot do anything but to accept the baby.
Another classmate shared that the mother caught the father with another woman. Several stories having the same subject were raised during that particular event.
My daughter shared to me that all the while she thought that she already had a very big problem because there are times that we cannot give her what she is asking for. The reason for this is that we have to prioritize things especially that with regards to expenses.
I would tell her that their education is the most important thing that is why we have to give it more focus this time.Now, talking to me she realized that other people, especially her classmates have bigger problems than she has. She has a complete family, a father, a mother and a brother. Although it is true that most of the time, she cannot have what she want, but she was given the opportunity to go to a good school and most importantly, she can express what she wants inside the house.
I am happy that she can be able to realized things by herself although, I am also sad to know the story of her classmates. Any success cannot compensate a failure inside the home.
